Tampa Bay Heart Walk

In Fall 2012 the GPSC participated in the American Hear Association's Tampa Bay Heart Walk.

We had a group of students walk in the event and, as an organization, we raised $250.00 for the American Heart Association.

American Red Cross Piper the Puppy Campaign

We are currently collecting donations for the Red Cross Piper the Puppy Campaign. When a family suffers from a tragedy resulting in the loss of their home and belongings, the Red Cross team is there to provide them food, shelter, and comfort.

For every $100 donation, the Red Cross can provide food and shelter for one family. And the children are given a stuffed animal named Piper the Puppy to comfort them through hard times.

GPSC is trying to raise at least $100 for this cause. We will have collection boxes at all of our events from now until April.

Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement

The Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement serves as the volunteer center for The University of South Florida community. The center offers resources on volunteerism, service-learning and opportunities for students and student organizations to develop leadership skills and get involved in service in the Tampa Bay area. Opportunities exist to participate in short-term projects, volunteer long-term or participate in service trips.

For more information about the center, contact the center at (813) 974-5053 or vservices@admin.usf.edu.

USF Health Service Corps

This USF Health-wide, interdisciplinary student group is designed to facilitate a new process through which USF Health students in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and Physical Therapy can participate in service activities together. The USF Health Service Corps is sponsored by the USF Area Health Education Center and has its own Coordinator who assists the USF Health students in planning, implementing and evaluating service activities. The purpose of the USF Health Service Corps is to facilitate opportunities for students in all areas of the USF Health to work together on specific time-limited service events, as well as new ongoing service learning projects throughout the year.

For more information about the Health Sciences Center Service Corps, contact Ellen Kent, MPH, Faculty Coordinator for USF Health Service Corps, at ekent@health.usf.edu.
